What are the performance characteristics of oxidized polyethylene wax?

Oxidized polyethylene wax is produced by melting a homopolymer of polyethylene in a columnar container and blowing in air. Oxidation leads to molecular fracture of polyethylene at the point of branching, and at the same time generates a large number of oxidized groups, including radicals, hydroxyl, ester group, aldehyde group, open group, and hydroperoxy group, etc., so its compatibility with polar resins can be significantly improved and is superior to that of polyethylene wax. The character of oxidized polyethylene wax is mainly white and slightly yellowish powder, with good chemical stability, soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons; it has strong non-polar modification performance of metal surface, and it can improve the demoulding property of PVC melt, especially when it is used in conjunction with lubricants with external sliding function, the effect is better.

 

At present, oxidized polyethylene wax is widely used in water-based coatings and printing ink formulations, providing excellent abrasion resistance, anti-adhesion and anti-scratch properties; good compatibility with rubber, plastics, paraffin waxes, etc.; in the plastics processing industry, the lubrication of PVC internal and external lubrication is more balanced; the lubrication of oxidized polyethylene wax added to hard transparent and opaque PVC formulations is better than that of other lubricants; the lubricating properties of oxidized polyethylene wax can be made into emulsifying type if the acid value is greater than 13. The acid value is more than 13 can be made into emulsified type.

 

Performance characteristics of oxidized polyethylene wax:

Oxidized polyethylene wax has low viscosity, high softening point, good hardness and other special properties, non-toxic, good thermal stability, low volatility at high temperatures, high dispersion of fillers, pigments, both good external lubrication, but also has a strong internal lubrication, but also has a coupling effect, can improve the productivity of plastics processing, reduce production costs, and polyolefin resins, such as good compatibility with the humidity at room temperature, good chemical resistance. It has good compatibility with polyolefin resin, good moisture resistance at room temperature, strong chemical resistance, excellent electrical properties, and can improve the appearance of finished products. Oxidized polyethylene wax also has high and low density, low density oxidized polyethylene wax average relative molecular mass (about 1,000) and softening temperature (about 104 ℃) is low, the plasticization of PVC resin has no obvious effect; high density oxidized polyethylene wax average relative molecular mass (about 9,000) and the softening temperature (about 140 ℃) is high, it can promote the plasticization of PVC resin.
